A False Tongue is a piece of leather that guards and protects the tongue of the boot. They put an additional layer between the laces and the tongue, protecting the tongue from dirt, dust and other debris that accumulate on the laces.
The kilties will have a pair of holes near the bottom so that you can thread the laces through to secure them in place. You'll have to completely unlace your boots. Lay the kiltie between the tongue and the upper, with the bottom of the kiltie extending down onto the vamp of the boot.
They are made from Premium American tanned, full grain 3-4 oz. leather from Wickett & Craig, the same that is used for our wallets.
We use the lighter weight leather because it protects your boot just as much with zero break in period and no lace changes needed.
